Challenge of a lifetime

After months of hard work training and fundraising, Tracey Rushton-Thorpe, Editor of Electrical Wholesaler and EEIBA Trustee completed her challenge of a lifetime, cycling over 400 miles through Vietnam and raising £4,500 for the EEIBA in the process.

Tracey said: "This is one of the hardest things that I have ever done. Vietnam is a beautiful country and I felt privileged to cycle through some areas which are never visited by tourists. As well as the satisfaction of completing the challenge, the experience of meeting local people along the route was fantastic."

The eight day challenge saw Tracey cycling from Hanoi to Sapa in North Vietnam along routes which could only be described as ‘unmarked roads’.

An additional challenge to overcome was the constant breaks in the journey while workmen finished building the section of the road which they intended to cycle on! Tracey says: “Some of the roads were excellent but they were in the minority which made it all more of a challenge – and great fun.

North Vietnam is also very mountainous and the final day saw us cycling 18km uphill to a place called Heaven’s Gate – I don’t think I need to explain that as you get the idea of how high it was from the name!

"When I signed up for the trip I knew it was going to be a challenge but it is something which I will remember for the rest of my life. The fact that I also managed to raise £4,500 for the EEIBA makes it even more worthwhile."

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who showed their support both before and during the trip and in particular to the following companies for helping me to raise these much needed funds for the EEIBA: Clare Communications, Adrem, Grundfos Pumps, Super Rod, Tower PR, MHW PR, HellermannTyton, Market Force, VPL, Dimplex, Priva, Tovey PR, Cerulean Communication, Trox UK, Ashdown Controls, Edson Evers, Market Link, GreenBrook Electrical, FETA, Megaman, NICEIC, Wieland Electric, Bright Consultancy, Colt International, SAS International, Legrand, Armstrong and Baxi Commercial."
