EEIBA FACES TOUGH TIMES IN 2010
During 2009, EEIBA has endeavoured to balance income against expenditure while continuing to help as many as possible who face difficult times. The economic outlook is by no means desperate across all electrical and electronics industry sectors, but it looks as though by the end of the current financial year, the charity will post an operational deficit.
Industry support
Income streams have been affected by commercial conditions. Some companies have been unable to maintain their level of support for regional and national fundraising events with EEIBA’s biggest fundraiser, powerBall, producing yet another amazing surplus of more than £225,000, but of which, net proceeds are considerably less than 2008.
Also, some EEIBA Branch functions, run by volunteer groups have had to be cancel fundraising events simply because companies and individuals, who have always been so supportive, have had to ‘tighten their belts’.
Welfare care
EEIBA is being asked to do more for families and individuals in need as other support mechanisms are being cut back. Other charities EEIBA works with in support of our beneficiaries have also cut back as their income falls.
EEIBA’s New Year plea
EEIBA’s Chief Executive, Timothy Lambert, said at the beginning of the New Year, "We are having to cut costs where at all possible, putting on hold some of our operational plans, until income picks up. It is not all doom and gloom; as our individual giving programmes continue to deliver worthwhile returns. But the reality is tough, which is why we thank those individuals and companies who continue to do all that they can in support of their industry’s charity. But I make no apologies to say that we will always be asking for more while people in need come to us for help in meeting their essential needs."
