Watching the world go by? Not Alan

Alan Toure

Following complications after an operation for blocked arteries in his legs, Alan Toure, an electrical engineer from Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire had to have both legs amputated.

Once he had recovered, not being one to sit and watch the world go by, he looked at the various prosthetic options.

So he researched what could be available on the Internet and this, together with information that he picked up from various clinics that he attended, led him to the decision that he needed a special leg with an electronic joint which exactly meets his needs.

However, as this would not be available on the NHS it meant that he would need to raise £18,000.

Alan got to work and with tremendous support from his wife, Sue and his two grown up children, he started an appeal.

This resulted in Alan's employer Princebuild, a local company synonymous with construction, refurbishment, plumbing, heating and mechanical and electrical services, raising £6,200 and they have also kept Alan's job open for him.

The local community were also involved with support from the local Conservative Club, Rotary Club, Whaplode a local village, race night, hog night, sponsored shave/haircut, parachute jump and coverage by local radio and TV, which means that Alan is getting very close to reaching his goal.

And of course, with support from the EEIBA and other charities, it is very likely that Alan will be back to work soon. Congratulations Alan on this massive effort, we all hope that your new limbs will be a great success.
