Mrs Evans, whose late husband had worked at Blyth Power Station, is a sprightly 84-years old. She approached EEIBA for assistance with the purchase of double glazing to the front of her house, as the old wooden frames were rotten and desperately in need of replacement. But the cost was prohibitive and beyond her means.
When she was visited by EEIBA’s Regional Welfare Officer, it came to light that Mrs Evans had recently had the windows at the back of the house replaced and had taken out a bank loan to finance the cost.
The repayments on this loan made day-to-day living increasingly difficult so with the help of EEIBA’s representative, it was decided to apply for the cost of the installation of the front windows and also the retrospective cost of the back windows.
This recommendation was agreed, which resulted in the front windows being installed, and the bank loan for the rear windows being paid off.
Mrs Evans is now much more comfortable in her draught free house and is finding things considerably easier without the burden of a bank loan.
