Beneficiaries' stories

Joshua Gardner

Joshua GardenerTwelve year old Joshua Gardener was struck down with Transverse Myelitis four years ago, which initially left him paralysed from the neck down. He was issued with a standard NHS wheelchair which was not ideal and restricted Josh’s interaction with his peers.

Josh has not let his disability get in the way of his love of sport and plays wheelchair basketball for the Leeds Spiders. He is also a keen wheelchair track racer.

Josh’s father who works within our industry, contacted EEIBA to see if we could assist with the cost of a lightweight day chair for Josh. This would help to develop his independence and increase his self confidence, allowing him to feel more confident about his future.

EEIBA were pleased to assist and with the help of other charities were able to supply Josh with a specialist made to measure day chair and also a specialist sports chair to allow him to take his track racing to a more competitive level.
