The Electrical and Electronics Industries Benevolent Association (EEIBA) was established in 1905 by the newly formed National Electrical Manufacturers' Association, which later became BEAMA. This team of pioneering business leaders from the burgeoning electrical industry were concerned about what would happen to 'those who had spent their lives establishing the electrical industry and been unable to secure sufficient monetary recompense to support them if accident, infirmary, misfortune or old age limited their activities or cutailed their means'.
At the time, charities in the UK were in their infancy and state pensions, unemployment benefit and a national health service were just a dream, but these far-sighted, public-spirited men decided to do something about providing for those in the industry who had fallen on hard times.
A dedicated electrical charity called the Electrical Trades Benevolent institution was created, and hence the EEIBA was born. Since that time, EEIBA has provided assistance to more than 50,000 people, established a highly effective branch network and currently raises more than £2m each year in funds for our clients. |
