Angie Turner, from Diss in Norfolk, has been honoured for her work in the region's electrical industry by being made an ambassador for the EEIBA, a national charity dedicated to providing help and support to the needy or distressed who do, or have at one time worked in this sector.
As one of the charity's first ever ambassador appointments, in what is a new scheme for the EEIBA, Angie has certainly got an important role to play.
As well as taking up the challenge of promoting the charity's work throughout Eastern England, and becoming more involved with organising fund raising events in the region, Angie will also be responsible for visiting local people who may be in need of the EEIBA's assistance and putting them in touch with the help they need.
While this may seem like a full-time job for most, Angie will take on these responsibilities on top of her already demanding role as regional manager for the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA), an organisation which represents the interests of over 2,700 contractors nationwide and is dedicated to promoting standards within the industry.
Angie's work for the ECA, since her appointment over ten years ago, has seen her become one of the most influential women in the region's electrical industry.
However, it is Angie's 'spare-time' activities that really stand out and prove she is no stranger to good works and fund raising.
As well as rescuing and rehabilitating racehorses that have either become too injured or antisocial to race, Angie also organises an annual village horse show in her hometown of Diss, which in its eight year history has raised a total of eight thousand pounds for the local church.
With plans in place to also start volunteer work at her local junior school to help children there with special needs, it is little wonder that Angie was selected by the national charity to set an example for future EEIBA ambassadors.
Bryan Lovewell from the EEIBA commented: "With these initial ambassador appointments it was important that we picked people that would have the contacts and influence to promote the scheme to others, and also the community spirit required to get so involved with important charity work.
"Without a doubt Angie fulfils both these criteria. Anyone that knows her should be very proud of the work she does for the area."
Wasting no time, Angie is already busy organising events to raise money for the EEIBA including a golf competition event and a regional dinner and dance.
Commenting on her appointment, Angie said: "I'm thrilled to have been made an EEIBA ambassador and will do all I can to raise the profile of the charity and, of course, money for them. In fact, I'll start now! If anyone is interested in donating or becoming an ambassador please give me a call on 01284 754605.
